When a psychotic gunman burst into Sandy Hook Elementary, many teachers dove under their desks. Victoria Soto, though, hid her first-grade students in a closet.
When the gunman entered the room, she told him that everyone had gone to the gym. Other versions of the story have her shielding the hidden students with her own body. She was shot to death.
Regardless of what really happened, she sacrificed herself, and as a result all of her students survived unharmed.
