Someone commented on one of my Kindle books, "He’s got a book on "big stick combat" and the title mentions a baseball bat, but a bat is not weighted like a proper combat weapon, and if you swing for the fences and miss, you give your opponent a large opening."
Dealing with that "large opening" after swinging a baseball bat has been my focus for years. I have sought to deal with this liability (close-range fighting and recovery after a swing) of the long stick.
The windmill is just one of many techniques I’ve devised to deal with the opponent who will bait me to strike, fade back, then rush in while I’m recovering.
In case it’s not clear from the video, I’m starting the in the right high guard, left hand over right, with the bat over my right shoulder. This technique could also be used to beat down or parry an opponent’s weapon, then immediately following up with a strike.
